Start a new data upload by clicking the + NEW UPLOAD button.
Select the file type. All files must be either .csv or .txt files. They must also be less than 10MB in size.
Click CHOOSE A FILE to select your bulk data file from your device.
Before clicking on UPLOAD, pick your Upload Destination. We recommend uploading into your current campaign.
Once the data is uploaded, click PREP DATA to format the data for compatibility.
You will then be brought to a new page to ensure the data is importing as you would like.
Note: Votivate uses the Catalist voterfile to populate our database and provide users with up-to-date, clean voterfile information to build universes off of. Therefore, in order to upload and match your canvass results to voters in Votivate, you will need to make sure one of the columns in your spreadsheet or csv. contain voter IDs. There are three types of Voter IDs you can upload into Votivate:
- Catalist Voter IDs, which are known as DWIDs.
- State File IDs. These are unique for every state and are provided by the Secretary of State. You may know these as SOS IDs.
- Votivate IDs -- if you had exported data out of Votivate and then needed to upload the changed list back into Votivate, you would have Votivate IDs to match your voters to.
Scroll down to the grey box and select which voter ID you would like to match on based on which ID you have. Once you have finished matching the ID columns, click on FINISH DATA PREP.
Now you may map your canvass results to Survey Questions and Tags in Votivate. Start by selecting
+ Add Mapping. To be able to do this, you will have to have already created your Survey Questions and Tags beforehand.
Select which category you would like to map to your contacts.
BULK UPLOADING ON CANVASS RESULT
Here you will be able to match the columns in your file to the categories shown below. Start by clicking which Survey Question in Votivate you would like to map to. You will see a list of every Survey Question in your campaign.
Under Question Answers you will want to select the column in your file that contains the responses to the Survey Question. If you are uploading a list of voters who all have the same answer, you can also select Apply single value to all rows. Lastly, you will want to select the column that records the date in which you got these canvass results. Once again, you can also select Apply single value to all rows if these results all occurred on one day.
Scroll down to continue filling out information about your canvass result.
Here you will select the Canvass Type (Paid, Candidate, Volunteer) and Contact Method (Calls, Walk, Texts, Relational). If your file contains a range of these options, ensure you have a column designating which canvass result is which. If not, you can apply a single value to all of the rows.
Then click on DEFINE COLUMN TO VALUE MAPS. This is where you will map the answers in your columns to specific data points in Votivate.
To make this process easier, we recommend following naming conventions when creating your survey Questions. To read more about our recommendations when bulk uploading into Votivate, check out our separate article here: Bulk Uploading: Best Practices.
Once you're done, click on SAVE MAPPING.
Then select FINISH UPLOAD, and you're all set! You will be brought back to the Bulk Uploads page, where you can see a list of all previous bulk uploads and check the status of the one you just created.
BULK UPLOADING ON TAG
To upload a tag, it's a bit easier. Simply click TAG for your Mapping Type.
Select the appropriate column, or you can apply a single value to all rows and mark everyone in the file with that tag.
