Canvassing Overview & Setup

To begin canvassing, you must have a few things set up first:

1) Universe of Voters - This is a crucial step as your universe needs to be less than 20,000 people in order to cut turf and assign out mobile or printed turf. It's the foundation of your canvassing activities.

2) Turf - This is the geographic region you create for people to canvass houses. You can assign one or more people to a turf, and a canvasser can have one or more turfs assigned to them. 

3) Survey Questions, Tags, and Sheet Formats - These are the questions and data points you want to collect in the field. You can format these questions and tags in the order you want using Sheet Format. You do not need both Survey Questions and Tags in a sheet format, but you need at least one.

4) Create Canvassers - You need the people you want to assign the turf to be in Votivate. To do this, go to the 'Staff & Vols' module and add the people. If they are already users in Votivate, you do not need to add them again. 

5) Assign Turf to Canvasser - Once you have all if these items above, you can assign people out on the mobile site and begin canvassing.

5a) If you need to remove a canvasser, you can follow these instructions.

6) Login to Canvass - We do not use a separate mobile app, instead you can use your web browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox). Navigate to www.hq.votivate.com, login, and you will see the turf you have been assigned.

Note: Changing Campaign Account - If you have access to more than one Votivate Campaign, you may need to switch campaigns first. Click on the top left corner, and switch to the correct Organization, State, and Campaign as needed.
